The Afrobarometer National Partner in South Africa, Plus 94 Research, interviewed a nationally representative, random, stratified probability sample of 1,600 adult South Africans between 2 May and 12 June. A sample of this size yields country-level results with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Previous surveys have been conducted in South Africa in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011,2015 and 2018. Plus 94 Research provided technical backstopping for the survey. Technical details of the survey, including descriptions of stratification and household selection, translation languages, and related information, can be found in the survey Technical Information Form that follows.
Below is an outline of the survey findings from all the questions posed to respondents. We also present the findings by some critical demographics such as gender and place of residence (urban-rural).
